The main path: gravel, manageable, no steps

The bamboo path itself is gravel and gently uphill. There are no steps on the main stretch. A person with normal mobility can walk it at any pace. The gravel is uneven and slow for strollers and wheelchairs, but it is not a technical barrier. If you have limited mobility but can walk on uneven ground, you can do it.

Wheelchairs and strollers: difficult but possible

Gravel is harder on wheels than pavement. A wheelchair or stroller can technically travel the path, but it will be slow and effortful. Some tours state they are not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers; the barriers are not the path itself but the surrounding temples and parks, which have steps.

The surrounding sites: where accessibility fails

Tenryū-ji temple has steps at the entrance. The Monkey Park requires a 15–20 minute uphill hike with stairs. Both are listed as not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. The path alone is fine; combining it with other sites is where the barriers appear.

Insider tip

The main path is gravel with no steps. If you can walk on uneven ground, you can do it. If you are in a wheelchair or using a stroller, the path is difficult but technically possible; the real barriers are at the temples around it.
